Buenos Aires Weather

If you are visiting Buenos Aires there are a few things that you will notice right away. The first one is that if you live in the northern hemisphere the seasons are in reverse. That means that if your local weather is in the summer, then Buenos Aires weather will be in the winter. Another thing that will become obvious to those staying in the city for a long time is that the weather though humid in the summer can be extremely good in the other 3 seasons.

Most people in fact choose to visit Buenos Aires in the fall, spring and winter because the temperatures are usually great. The summer does see the numbers creep up a bit, especially if there is a heat wave heading south from Brazil. In those cases it is not rare for the temperatures to be around 95 degrees Fahrenheit plus humidity.

The Hot Summers

The summers can be hot and muggy with the relative humidity finding a stable 65 to 70 percent. The high temperatures feel even higher when the humidity is that high. The hottest months in Buenos Aires weather are December, January and February with January usually recording the highest temperatures. The average high temperature in January is 86.7 F or 30.4 C while the average low is 68.7 F or 20.4 C. On an average day you can expect the temperatures to hover around 77-78 F. January is also the month when you will get the most sunshine hours per day with an average of 270 hours per month.

There is some rain in the city of Buenos Aires in the summer, and that rain is a bit effective in cooling the city down, but not nearly enough. Another negative about the Buenos Aires weather in the summer is that there is little to no breeze to help you cool down.

Great Winters

The summer as you can see is not the best time t visit the city of Buenos Aires except for the fact that there are less crowds; but how is the Buenos Aires weather in the winter? The winter is near perfect in the city of Buenos Aires and you should not expect temperatures to get too cold. It is however a good idea to pack at least one heavy coat because in rare occasions the low temperatures can get really low (for Buenos Aires Weather anyway). The record low for a Buenos Aires winter is 22.3 F or -4 C.

Those temperatures do not happen frequently, but it is a good idea to be prepared. You will not see much snow in Buenos Aires; in fact the city had spent nearly 90 years without snow until they saw some in 2007. That only happened because cold air from Antarctica came into a collision with a moisture low pressure system.

Best Times To Visit

By far the best times to visit Buenos Aires are the spring and the fall. At these times the temperatures are great, though it is worth noting that the month with the most rain in Buenos Aires weather is March right when the fall starts. The warm temperatures during the day and the chilly but not overly cold nights make it the perfect weather for outdoor festivals and sporting events. The winter follows as it is not as cold as it is in other regions in the world. The summer in Buenos Aires weather is just a little too hot and muggy for it to be a great visiting time, but it is not as bad as it could be as other spots in the world have much warmer summers.

Precipitation

Buenos Aires does get its fair share of rainy days so it does not have problems with its water supply. The rainiest month in the year is March with a total of 153.9 mm as an average for the entire month. The second month with the most rain in Buenos Aires weather is October which is closely followed by November. The months when you will get the least amount of rain in Buenos Aires weather are the winter months. Jun gets only 50 mm followed by July with 52.9 mm and August with 63.2 mm. The city of Buenos Aires does see a good amount of thunderstorms but snow is not something that is a problem in the area.

People from Western Argentina come to Buenos Aires in the winter to avoid the colder temperatures of the Andes, and because the area holds a lot of great activities in the cooler months of fall, winter and spring.
